Some serious backblog time (before I forget):
7 November, Friday

Joined the riders who meet at Seng Chu Hin every Friday night for a ride. There were 11 of us. Met James who rides the gay-blue 2004 Kona Kula; he's on slicks however. The 2004 Marzocchi MX Comp with ETA that comes with his bike has a bigger easier-to-use lever for activating the lockout than my '03 model. We went up Mt Faber; I managed to be the first in the group to reach the top, thanks to the power of SPDs :P
The cheese prata at the Muslim coffeeshop beside the circular market in Tampines St 11 is great.
8 November, Saturday

Went to Kin Soon & Weng Khay's house at Jedburgh Gardens near church for a BBQ gathering. Nice big place. Spacious garden, good for a BBQ. Items consumed: chicken wings, BBQed beef steak (too bad it was seasoned with garlic, ugh), hash browns (bless 'em, what a brilliant idea-- cooking frozen hashbrowns on the BBQ grill), chicken satay, otak (the big kind), sour cream & onion Pringles, iced lemon tea from a real shop dispenser.

Wasn't sure whether I should actually eat so much there, since I had to go to Shaun and Barbara's new flat at Bedok South for their house-warming immediately after, but when I reached the flat, I was glad I had my fill at the BBQ earlier. Shaun's younger brother, Nick, works as a cook at a Japanese place and was in charge of the food at this party, so the main menu for the evening was Japanese, not my type. Not surprisingly, beer and wine were readily available. Shaun and Barbara are excellent hosts with the knack of spotting an empty wine glass and topping it up in a flash.
Jeffrey and wife were there too; she had his polished steel Panerai Submersible on her wrist while he had his brushed titanium Submersible on his, cool.
Shaun has 2 good-looking cats in the house which were adopted.
Couldn't resist taking a pic of Ken who was slumbering on the couch (the reason which I would leave you to find out); was duly censured by him, but I felt no remorse, hehe.

11 November, Tuesday (de GRISOGONO night!)

I was lucky enough to receive an invite from Sincere Watch (thanks to Jeffrey) about a week ago to attend the launch of de GRISOGONO watches and jewelry at Fullerton Hotel Ballroom; it was to be a black tie affair, and cocktails and dinner would be served too. With an opportunity like that, how can I refuse? Was glad to meet Ng Tjeng Jaw there, Singapore's well-known watch critic and connoisseur! He contributes regularly to ThePuristS forum. For lovers of fine watches and fine food, do check it out.

14 November, Friday

Finally met up with Khim Woon at Ngee Ann City to sell him my Panerai OEM smooth rubber strap and pass him a Panerai Special Editions catalogue. He looks artistic with his stubble and short hair. He passed me a Cape Cod polishing cloth; much appreciated!

Decided to ride to Adam Rd Food Centre to join FWNR (Friday Westside Night Ride) for the first time. Saw Uncle David, Uncle Eric, Patio, Sendoh there. Quite a big group of riders. We even ran into the east riders from Seng Chu Hin at Jln Kayu, and all of us rode to Punngol together. Route: Adam Rd Food Centre -> Lornie Rd -> Yio Chu Kang Rd -> Jln Kayu -> Sengkang -> Punggol (went on sandy off-road to the coast) -> Jln Kayu for makanpoint -> home.
On the way back, along Yio Chu Kang Rd, traffic light at junction turned green and I made my way forward. Taxi on opposite road made right turn. Of course, it should wait to give way to me, which I took for granted, but it DIDN'T. Result: Taxi kept on veering towards me, I couldn't brake in time, and my front wheel collided into the side of the moving taxi. I didn't stay to argue. However, I was in a state of mild shock. Very pissed too. The good news was that my front wheel wasn't out of true too much. Took it the next morning to the bikeshop at St 81, where the good uncle used his spoke key only a few times to true my front wheel and did not charge me a cent.
15 November, Saturday
Twas the day of Shaun and Barbara's ROM at Fort Canning, which is Barbara's birthday as well; that's why they picked this date, how sweet. For pics of this event, click here.
Went to their flat in the evening for the post-ROM reception. The video of the day's earlier happenings was screened for the guests to see. I couldn't really pay much attention during the first time it was screened, but during the repeat screening, I did a double take when I SAW PHYLLIS QUEK giving her well-wishes to the couple on camera. Well, turns out that she's Barbara's good friend of 12 years, isn't that something.
Casually asked Barbara about Phyllis, and with that, triggered an epic chit-chat session with Barbara, Nick, Steven, Ken and me in which we discussed Phyllis, relationships, and the psychology of the dating game, which lasted till 5+am. Of course, it helped that there was good wine around.
For the record, Phyllis is still waiting for a nice man to come along.
