FINALLY completed the last session of the epic 60-hour grammar course! Now I know what's a transitive verb, a gerund, and the difference between expository text and factual recount. Admit it, those terms catch no ball to you right? Brought my form class for class-outing earlier. Stop 1: A tropical fruit farm in Lim Chu Kang; pupils complained very hot and have to walk so far in. Stop 2: Quail farm in Lim Chu Kang; pupils complained very smelly. Stop 3: Boat Quay; pupils complained no where to buy food (actually quite true). Well, you get the idea.... them spoilt, tender brats. Should send all these kids to boot-camp!

I admit I haven't been following the news. But apparently, there's this woman who's the Queen of killer litter-- why would a woman throw five cats, two chairs, a table, a pile of books, documents and clothing out of her ninth-floor flat in a Clementi housing board estate? X'Ho, in BigO this month: "My point is, if you're rich, you can probably insulate yourself from these kinds of behaviour. Sales people will suck up to you. When you're rich, there's no need to share space, interact with heartlanders. If you ever visit the heartlands, it'll be by sheer choice, a quaint destination, you're just slumming it out and then you can go back to your little bubble." "But heartlanders live under this 'No Choice' regime, and it breeds resentment, and eventually The Scowl. And they can't articulate this resentment very easily, so it comes out in all these berserk and anti-social gestures." (courtesy of BigO newsletter). Well, well, so there is a reason behind all this madness. Maybe I should have more tolerance for the spitting, swearing, horning, littering, dumping, vandalism, graffiti, unflushed toilets and Seventh Month burning around me. Hey, it's all part of the HDB Heartlander experience. Quit dreaming about your house without a block number, wake up and smell the urine-stenched lifts.

Went to Muiling's new apartment for the house dedication, and who did I see there but the venerable Reverend Samuel Doctorian, the famous preacher. He possessed a really impressive snow-white beard, which brought to mind the likes of Richard (or David??) Attenborough. To silence my critics, I shall refrain from mentioning what I consumed during the reception.

Dinner was rather insufficient, so decided to try out the black pepper chicken chop at the muslim coffee shop next to Kembangan MRT. VERY satisfying, even came with a sunny-side egg on top-- highly recommended (anyway, how many Western food stalls carry black pepper chicken chop?). This place also scores extra marks for its iced milo; no other iced milo comes close, period. So good that I had 3 glasses.

Abba songs were actually used during a staff seminar on school values; at least I got to hear Dancing Queen. Nicola Conte's 'Jet Sounds Revisited' is beginning to grow on me. Waiting for the release of Manic Street Preachers Greatest Hits! Thank God I didn't suffer a flat during my Coastal Rd ride, after hearing what happened to Jeremy last night.

Just occurred to me that blogging can make one pretty anti-social. Someone asks you how was your day and you reply, "Go read my blog." I resolve not to do this anymore. There is value in chatting with people.

Had lunch at Fish & Co with my sis after church, woohoo, with calamari and extra chips of course. Was bored and the weather was fine, so decided to take my MTB for a spin along Coastal Rd; too bad no one from Togoparts organised a ride there today. It was 7pm when I left, so the sky gradually got darker. It was a much more peaceful ride than i expected, esp along those parts that were not well-lighted; took <25 mins from Tanah Merah Country Club to SAF Ferry Terminal, hmmm, wonder what was my average speed? Slack-rode from the Ferry Terminal onwards, 'cos it was book-in night, and looking at all those sorry soldiers saying bye to their parents and walking into the terminal brought back not-so-fond memories of my book-in nights at the old terminal near Commando Camp. I could almost gloat at 'em, 'cos I can perfectly understand their feeling. Man, I'd rather go through marking a mountain of English Paper 2 scripts (the whole paper) from 5 classes again than book in on a Sunday night. Had a quick dinner of carrot cake and teh tarik at Changi Village hawker ctr (where else); when I reached there, I was slightly chuffed like I always do after a fairly long ride-- that I had made my way to the destination by virtue of my pedal power without contributing an inch to global warming. Then it was a detour to Pasir Ris Park before heading back home.
Kelvin 10:23 PM
Went for a slack ride at Pasir Ris Park with Francis. He really needs to get used to a higher seat position, then he wouldn't be complaining about sore knee joints. As usual, the masses descended on the park since it's a Saturday night, but I didn't expect so many people... Went for prata at Afghanistan coffee-shop in Tampines (no prizes for guessing that it's a Muslim one); the curry was disappointing, not the mutton kind but the yellow, dahl-containing kind. Mum and sis returned from their JB day-trip, sis bought a Lacoste polo (the one with the cute alligator logo) from a factory outlet and didn't have the fore-sight to get one for me! Censured her for that.

Came home after NCC and was more tired than I thought. Dozed off without taking lunch; now I'm typing this at 5.48pm and I've not eaten anything since I woke up in the morning. This must be a blow to my 'critics'!

Staff D & D onboard the MS Columbus at Punggol Marina; this marina is seriously lacking a good seaview. Food was not too bad; the satay was well-seasoned, but could have been more tender. Won a stool in the lucky draw; however I also got the 'biggest' prize (and arrow) of 'em all: the position of Staff Welfare Committee Chairman for the year 2003, awarded through the staff vote. The Winners of our Silver Awards (tongue-in-cheek) *drumroll*: Crazy Workhorse Award - for the staff who stays back the longest, aka workaholic: Audrey (she better start going home earlier, hehe) Supermodel Award - self-explanatory, probably the most coveted award: Winnie (in Wayne's World terms - schwing!) Social Butterfly Award - for the staff who is always smiling and friendly - Helen (a well-deserved winner; how bout some more of those pizzas?) Cool Cucumber Award - for the staff who always seems on top of everything, regardless of pressure or huge workload - Yi Tinn (despite her PMS, she can still cope with her work. sorry Yi Tinn, can't help making that joke, btw, PMS = Pupil Management System). Nike Award - for the energizer bunny in our staff: Yen Mei (naturally, she's a PE teacher :) )

Stupid PMS! Don't think funny, it stands for Pupil Management System.

It's the second last session of my epic 60-hour Grammar Course, yay; Thursdays won't be dreadful soon. Cycled at East Coast with Francis, Jeremy, Steven and Weilong (on blades), however, Dorine put our aeroplane. Had satay beehoon (what else), bbq wings and chendol (it comes in a cup with straw, cool). Chatted about East View staff (discussion skewed towards the fairer sex). Discovered that the track to Benjamin Sheares has been blocked by construction *sheesh*; seems the only way to the underneath of the bridge is via Tanjong Rhu now. I wanna find the way to the ECP helipad... Hope I can fit into my tight pants for the Staff D & D tomorrow. After a long hiatus from guitar-based music, I recently bought Sonic Youth's Murray Street, which brought back fond memories; now thinking of buying Henry Rollins live album (2CD), retailing at Gramophone for the nice price of $25.99 (I think). When is Teenage Fanclub gonna release their next album? Bloody HMV is selling their collaboration album with Jad Fair for $38, can u beat that; think i'll have to skip that one >:(
