It was Senior Sunday School Sports Day today, and venue was Katong Special School, whose premises used to be occupied by Siglap Primary School, which was my primary school! Had a good time taking photos of the place. Memories of sitting on the basketball court for assembly and getting 'bombed' by pigeons, playing
one-
leg, lining ourselves in one row to brush our teeth at the boundary between the basketball court and field and gargling and spitting onto the grass, etc, came flooding into mind. And the little pond is still there. But it is all dried up!
Came across a National Day Celebration dinner at Toa Payoh Central, the usual affair, open-air dining, Chinese course-meals, stage in front... but what struck me were the waitresses. They comprised of various ages, from aunties to teenage girls, and were all dressed similarly in red tees and black skirts, well, almost. Noticed that the length of the skirt was inversely proportional to the age of the waitress who was wearing it.
And when the stage performances began, gosh... what happened to the wholesome performances which I'm so accustomed to for the past 2 National Day dinners that I attended in Tampines? The kitschy auntie-singers on stage, accompanied by equally kitschy band, were more characteristic of a seventh-month
getai performance! Tsk tsk.
Had a quick haircut at QB at Toa Payoh Central. My hairstylist's name is Karen. Getting your hair vacuumed by their patented machine proved to be a therapeutic experience.
